Dr. Tom “Tad” Hughes is Associate Professor at the University of Louisville and the former Director of the Southern Police Institute as well as past Interim Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Dayton. He graduated Cum Laude with his Law degree from the University of Dayton in 1991. He is an active status member of the Ohio Bar. Dr. Hughes received his master’s in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati in 1993 and his Ph.D. in 2000. He has authored 32 peer reviewed articles and presented research findings around the United States as well as in Lebanon, Italy, Scotland, Sweden and the UAE. He has worked with various state and local police departments on a variety research and consulting projects. His research interests include criminal procedure, police liability, police human resource issues, and organizational issues in policing.
