Lee Ann Slocum received her Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2007, and she is currently an associate professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Her research interests include police-citizen interactions and how people’s environment shapes their behavior. Lee’s recent research explores the effects of being stopped by the police or arrested on youth’s involvement in delinquency and orientation toward the law and how prior experiences with law enforcement influence victims’ decision to report crime. Currently, she is part of a team of researchers conducting a longitudinal survey of students in St. Louis area schools that examines school safety and students’ interactions with law enforcement. Lee is also working with St. Louis City to enhance safety in two St. Louis neighborhoods as part of a Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Grant.
