The second report released by the Misdemeanor Justice Project, The Summons Report: Trends in the Issuance and Disposition of Summonses in New York City, 2003-2013 examined the issuance and processing of criminal summonses in New York City. We examined longitudinal trends by the City’s boroughs (i.e. the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island) as well as by age, gender, charge, disposition, and sentence/fines imposed. Additionally, this report examined the proportion of defective or legally insufficient summonses, and which summonses resulted in a warrant.
