Trends in Misdemeanor Arrests in New York

The first report, Trends in Misdemeanor Arrests in New York, examined misdemeanor arrest rates in New York City, Upstate Cities in New York State (i.e., Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Yonkers), and the rest of New York State from 1980 to 2013. We analyzed arrest rates by demographics, arrest charge, disposition, and sentence. This was followed by a closer look at New York City by charting trends by gender within race/ethnicity and age with gender and race/ethnicity. Lastly, this report examined the proportion of Desk Appearance Tickets (DATs) issued relative to the number of misdemeanor arrests in the City.
